The Congress today mocked Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee for making a 8216;8216;habit8217;8217; of issuing a clarification subsequent to making a controversial statement.

Referring to yesterday8217;s clarification from the PMO to Vajpayee8217;s reported comment describing the Deputy Speaker8217;s decision as 8216;8216;unfortunate8217;8217;, Congress spokesman Jaipal Reddy said, 8216;8216;We feel the PM makes the original indiscreet remark deliberately and the clarification follows with an equal amount of deliberation.8217;8217;

He said the PM8217;s comment was deplorable. 8216;8216;No prime minister or union minister has ever in the history of Independent India made adverse comments on a Speaker8217;s ruling,8217;8217; said Reddy.

He went on to list the number of times of late the PM had sought to clarify his statements. 8216;8216;There should be a ceiling on the number of clarifications a Prime Minister can give on his own statements,8217;8217; Reddy said sarcastically. 8216;8216;We have lost count of his clarifications. We need a calculator to keep count.8217;8217;

Reddy blasted Home Minister L.K. Advani for refusing the Congress demand for an inquiry by a sitting Supreme Court judge into Godhra massacre and the subsequent violence in Gujarat.

8216;8216;Worse, he supported the Modi Government8217;s decision for a probe by a handpicked retired High Court judge. The accused Modi has picked his own judge,8217;8217; Reddy declared.
