SRINAGAR, OCT 7: A Congress leader and three militants were among seven persons killed in separate incidents, while ultras attacked the house of a protected person and torched houses of four special police officers in Jammu and Kashmir since last night.
Official sources said in Jammu that a Congress block president Zaffar Hussain was shot dead and his son seriously injured when militants ambushed their vehicle at Mughal Maidan in Doda district, last evening.
Militants fired heavily on the vehicle killing Hussain on the spot and critically injuring his son, the sources said adding a manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits.
Reports from Rajouri district said an army jawan was killed and another injured when militants opened fire on a patrol party in Bei Nambal area.
The troops also retaliated and in the crossfire one civilian was killed, the sources said.
A militant was killed during a heavy fire-fight between troops and ultras in Barneli forest in Udhampur district. However, other ultras manage to escape under the cover of darkness, the sources said adding one army officer sustained a bullet-injury in the clash and was hospitalised.
Meanwhile, an official spokesman here said unidentified militants shot dead a SPO, Shahbaz Malik at SHMS Hospital here, last evening.
Malik was attending on a patient in the hospital and was heading towards canteen when the ultras killed him, he said.
He said security forces shot dead an unidentified militant at Tarabal in Gurez sector of Baramulla district, late last night.
Police picked up the body of an unidentified person from Checknallah-Barnai in Gurez today.
Militants opened fire on the house of a protected person, Abdul Razzaq Mir at Zaithan in Badgam district last night.
The police guards posted in the house returned the fire, forcing militants to escape. None was hurt in the shootout, the spokesman said.
Suspected militants burnt the houses of four surrendered militants, currently working as SPOs at Khoriwali and Madoon village in Rajouri district during the intervening night of October five and six. Before torching the houses the militants asked the family members of the SPOs to come out, the sources said.
Meanwhile, an official spokesman said two militants, one of them identified as Nissar Ahmad, were killed in an encounter with army at Chakura village of Pattan in Baramulla district of North Kashmir today.
An army jawan, Surinder Singh, also laid down his life and another jawan was wounded in the gun-battle which lasted for several hours, he said.
A large quantity of arms and ammunition, including a pika gun, two AK-assault rifles, two pistols, a grenade launcher and six grenades, were recovered from the killed militants.
Security forces also recovered huge amount of arms and ammunition from various parts of the state.
