CALCUTTA, Aug 8: The Congress at its party plenary session condemned the atrocities committed on the Dalits in Maharashtra and demanded immediate dismissal of the Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena government in the State.
A resolution asked the Congress president to appoint a high-powered committee to study the problems of weaker sections and submit a status report along with specific recommendations within four months.
The party demanded punishment to those responsible for non-implementation of the reservation policy for scheduled castes, tribes and other backward classes and said the policy should be implemented in full.
The committee, which should study their specific problems and devise solutions, should submit its report in four months, the party’s political resolution said.
