NEW DELHI, July 21: Alleging that the Patna Raj Niwas had been turned into a “political hub” by the Bharatiya Janata Party and Samata Party, the Rashtriya Loktantrik Morcha (RLM) today complained to President K R Narayanan that Bihar Governor S S Bhandari was “misusing” his office.
Bhandari, “being a member of the RSS”, was using the Raj Niwas to strengthen the base for BJP, Samata Party and RSS in the state, the RLM alleged.
Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and Rashtriya Janata Dal president Laloo Prasad Yadav, who met the President this afternoon, also urged him to try and stop the Centre from targeting non-BJP ruled states. “The Centre has no right to dismiss a duly elected and democratic government on the ground of bad law and order,” Laloo apparently told the President.
Describing the Centre’s action of sending teams only to non-BJP ruled states as a “deep-rooted conspiracy to settle political scores”, the two leaders suggested that teams be sent immediately to Maharashtra andRajasthan — two states which have BJP-led Governments — where “the law and order situation was equally bad”.
During their 30-minute meeting with the President, Laloo and Mulayam also demanded the dismissal of the Kalyan Singh Government in Uttar Pradesh, alleging total collapse of the law and order machinery in the state. They further sought his interference in making the Centre release a “white paper” on the overall law and order situation in the country.
It may be recalled that recently a three-member Central team visited Bihar to assess the reasons for the mounting political killings in the state and the deteriorating law and order situation.
