CHENNAI, SEPT 6: India8217;s Narain Karthikeyan met with a misfortune when he got involved in a three-car collision and had to retire with broken suspension in the 13th round of the Autosport British Formula 3 championship series at Donnington Park today.

Karthikeyan, driving for Carlin Motorsport team, thus, remained in the fifth position in the Overall championship points table with a tally of 98 and his hopes of finishing in the top three at the end of the season diminished considerably.

Narain, sponsored by Kingfisher, Mobil 1, TATA and JK Tyre, had started in the third row of the grid, but was distinctly unlucky to get tangled with Scheckter and Martin O8217;Connell in the very first lap, leading to his retirement.

Marc Hynes of Britain won the event with a start-to-finish effort after starting in pole position for the 20-lap race for his fifth success of the season that saw him take the lead in the championship standings with 176 points.

Finishing behind Hynes was 19-year old fellow-Britisher Jenson Button who did well to stay ahead of Brazilian Luciano Burti and Toby Scheckter.

Championship standings after 16 rounds

Marc Hynes 1 176 points; Luciano Burti 2 169; Jenson Button 3 137; Kristian Kolby 4 117; Narain Karthikeyan 5 98; Matt Davies 6 92.
