Smart one

Municipal Commissioner Dr Roshan Sunkaria isn8217;t fidgety about taking on the councillors any more. His hesitance, visible during the first few meetings, seems to have vanished. In a meeting before Diwali, he expressed his displeasure at the practice of councillors giving gifts to the Municipal Corporation employees. A seemingly peeved councillor quipped he would tell the employees that while they all agreed on giving gifts, the Commissioner opposed the same. To this the Commissioner replied, 8220;On one hand, you keep cribbing about the working of the officials and on the other, want to give them gifts. The employees are mine first and yours later. I am more concerned about them.8221;

Fond memories

Aneet Dulat, Chief Regional Manager, IRCTC, often gets nostalgic about his student days. In a recent interaction he said that while studying at Panjab University, he and the incumbent Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation Minister Kumari Shelja became close friends. But their bond owed itself to the excellent gastronomical skills of Dulat8217;s mother.

8220;We used to go to my place riding our bicycles and have paranthas cooked by my mother which she was really fond of. Now whenever we come across each other, she always reminds me of my mother8217;s delicacies.8221;

Rumour has it

Ever since the 8216;cash-at-judge8217;s-door8217; scandal, speculation is rife about the transfer of a few High Court judges. These rumours haven8217;t confined themselves to the advocate chambers. It has reached the other side of the bench as well. 8220;Why are you seeking a long adjournment; don8217;t worry, I am not going to get transferred,8221; a High Court Judge assured an advocate. Before retiring in his rest room, the Judge also gave the same assurance to his Court employees.

Apple of the eye

Manjit Brar, UT8217;s IT Secretary, is a diehard fan of Apple Products. He owns the entire range of the US-based computer company associated with inventor/entrepreneur Steve Jobs. He possessed an I- phone way before it was even heard of in India. His office has a stylish Macintosh computer and his laptop is a sleek Apple Macbook. In fact, every accessory, including the mouse, is an Apple make. Those visiting his office, notice his predilections for Steve Job8217;s products. Any observation to this effect is causally shrugged, 8220;Once you start using Apple8217;s product, you just can8217;t work on anything else. Everything else is a cheap travesty of what Apple originally made.8221; We couldn8217;t agree with you more sir, but if you could appeal to Mr Jobs to price his product a bit more reasonably.

Party time

Last week, Akali Dal president Sukhbir Badal threw a party for journalists at Taj Hotel. The invitations that were sent requested the journalists to bring along his or her better half. Badal himself was accompanied by his wife. Maybe he expected that if they come along with their wives, many of the scribes will restrain from showing their tipsy behaviour. That didn8217;t exactly happen though! While the party overall was well managed and tastefully arranged, a couple of 8216;invitees8217; guzzled down a drink too many. Unable to walk straight, a particular group stumbled and fell in a heap. Being a gracious host, Mr Badal just looked, smiled and ignored.
