Spreading light
It8217;s Diwali time and exhibitions of lamps and lanterns are being organised at every nook and corner. So what8217;s special about this one? The people behind it, the fingers that created the works. Organised by the Bal Kalyan Sanstha, Pune, the artistic diyas were made by children of the centre, children who are either blind, deaf, dumb or mentally handicapped. Their disabilities notwithstanding, their fingers give expression to the hoard of talent within, and regardless of their personal misfortune, they spread cheer amongst others.
Mite is right
At a time when the environment should be one of our most primary concerns, here8217;s another viewpoint towards preserving it. Anjana Chaoji Devasthale, holding a postgraduate degree in horticulture, presents her opinion at a workshop on bonsais at Agro Darshan 8217;98, conducted by post-graduate students of agriculture and horticulture at the Police Parade Ground on October 12.
Emphasising that bonsais are actually a national requirement, her theme highlights the extinction and destruction of many plant species, courtesy various development activities. At such a point, she says, bonsais can be a veritable plant kingdom, albeit miniature in size and portable in nature! What nature denies, the bonsai provides, says Anjana.
