Showtime, folks
Ace film and television celebrities, Shekhar Suman, Sonu Nigam, Aadesh Srivastava amongst others are scheduled to perform live, for the first time in Pune, on May 20. The evening show which will begin at 7 p m, promises to be a music and dance extravaganza. Other stars like Narendra Bedi, Chandana Dixit and Nayan Rathod will also adorn the stage. The event, `Acoustics @2000′ organised by Event+VE also promises a quartz watch free with every ticket. With a galaxy of stars to make their presence felt in the flesh, the show is bound to tick, even without this gift gimmick!

Card games
A few Puneties are personally making it to the Lords to cheer the Indian Cricket team and some are silently praying for their victory. While all companies are trying to make the most of the World Cup, the card companies are not to be left behind. They have come out with cards that you can send to our Indian players. Sachin on the card, an Anil Kumble card, an Azharuddin card, Saurav Ganguly and many more. One even has the entire cricket team on it.

Copywriters sure have worked hard to churn out words like – shock them, assault them, nag them…and triumph, `Hey hitter’it’s time to kill, time to set a few more records, make them swing to your tune, you’ve got the edge you can do it, we’ve got tiger on our side… What’s more, when you buy the card you also get an envelope with the address of the Board of Control for Cricket, India, printed on it. So all you have to do is put a stamp on it and you have conveyed your best wishes to the Indian cricket team who are miles and miles away from you.

And if cards don’t satisfy you, then you have World Cup organisers, diaries, pads with complete profiles of cricketers of different teams, stationery, autograph books and gift sets.

Tuneful tales
A year after the idea was first mooted a book on the renowned music director OP Nayar has finally been released. The Legendary OP Nayyar was released recently in Mumbai with Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray presiding. Says Ganesh Bagdare, a fan of OP Nayyar and one of the publishers of the book,“The idea to compile articles by his associates both in the film and music industry was put forth during his visit to Pune last year.” The book which is meant to act as reference contains articles by Asha Bhonsale, Raju Bharatan and Pune-based Subhash Nargolkar. Besides photographs by film and glamour photographer Gautam Rajadhyaksha the book also features those of Pune-based lensmen, Prasad Sanwatsarkar, Satish Paknikar and Bhalchandra Vani. “At a time when Lata Mangeshkar was the rage and every music director who worked with her was considered to have finally arrived, OP Nayyar chose not to. He is bold and experimental in his work.” says Bagdare.
