VADODARA, April 29: The industries of Vadodara have urged the state chief minister to minimise their burden and exempt small scale industries from a recent rise in the dearness allowance announced by the State Labour Commissioner.
The labour commissioner has announced a rise in the special dearness allowance index at the rate of Rs 8.20 per day for industrial workers, with effect from April 1, 1999. Referring to the announcement, Amit Goradia, president, Forum of Federations, Chambers and Associations of Industries of Gujarat, has requested chief minister Keshubhai Patel to intervene in the context. Saying that this rise would burden the industrialists further, he added that a rise in the DA would mean payment of Rs 213.20 per worker under the Minimum Wage Act, 1948.
Meanwhile, Nandesari Industries Association also protested the said fiat of the Labour Commissioner. Association president Mohan Nair in a statement said that such steps would either lead to retrenchment of the workers or closure of the industries.
