China146;s diving domination continues with second gold

Lin and Huo won the 2007 World Championships in Melbourne by more than 22 points and they won the Olympic title with nearly 18 points to spare from Germany who took silver and Russia who slipped down to bronze.

Having come out and scored a perfect ten from one of the judges in the first round, the Chinese had the home crowd on their feet at the Water Cube with their second dive.

Their inward pike also impressed the nine judges who awarded them seven 10s and a 9.5 for the second round.

Lin and Hou went onto lead by ten points after three of the six dives.

And while Russian pair Gleb Galperin and Dmitriy Dobroskok were less than eight points behind with two dives remaining, the Russians finished poorly to allow Germany8217;s Patrick Hausding and Sascha Klein to take the silver.

It meant the Chinese finished on 468.18 points from Germany8217;s 450.42 and Russia took third with 445.26.

There was disappointment for Britain8217;s pair of Blake Aldridge and 14-year-old Tom Daley who finished last of the eight pairs with 408.48 points and dropped down the leaderboard after a bright start.

The schoolboy from Plymouth and his 26-year-old partner finished joint third after the first round, but dropped down the leaderboard as the competition progressed.
