
China is ready to learn from India on establishing the rule of law, a senior ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) official said.
Zhou Yongkang, member of the powerful CPC Standing Committee of Political Bureau, told a Supreme Court delegation led by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan that China and India shared a long history of friendship and had many things to learn from each other.
Zhou said China was implementing the fundamental principle of rule of law in all aspects, noting that the just concluded 17th National Congress of the CPC had given priority to speed up building a socialist country governed by law.
China-India relations had improved and expanded, exchanges between the judicial systems of the two countries also deepened, Zhou was quoted as saying by official Xinhua news agency.
He said he believed that the visit by Indian Supreme Court Chief Justice would further advance exchanges and cooperation between the judicial systems of the two countries.
Justice Balakrishnan said he admired China’s achievements in economic and social development and added that India attached importance to its relations with Beijing.
The judicial system of India was willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with its Chinese counterpart, he said.
The delegation arrived in Beijing on Tuesday on a five-day China visit at the invitation of the Supreme People’s Court of China.
The delegation met Xiao Yang, President of the Supreme People’s Court of China on Tuesday.
