
Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping on Wednesday promised that the country would host an 8216;exciting, wonderful and successful8217; Olympics that would satisfy the world, the athletes and the spectators.
Underscoring the priority attached to security for Olympics, he also said that in the next 30 days, the country would repeatedly test measures to ensure the safety of the coming torch relay in Beijing, the events and the venues.
Terrorism has been identified as the biggest threat to Olympics by China, which has put in place a raft of measures to ramp up security for trouble-free Games.
8220;We will do our utmost to fulfill the tasks in the final preparations. We will host an exciting, wonderful and successful Olympics and Paralympic Games that will satisfy the world, the athletes and the audience,8221; Xi told officials at a meeting to review preparations with security and stadium management in focus.
Xi said all preparations were proceeding smoothly with assistance from the International Olympic Committee and the world.
He also told the local governments of Beijing and its neighbouring provinces to finalise their security measures and develop contingency plans, official Xinhua news agency said.
He said another major task would be to have test runs of the venues and improve their efficiency and management. We will test every detail at every post and make sure if we find any flaws and we will correct them as quickly as possible, even during the Games.
