CALCUTTA, JUNE 8: The promoter of Dunlop India Limited, M R Chhabria, has deposited an amount of Rs 20 crore in a no-lien account for the rehabilitation of the sick company. A company statement said that Dunlop had already sought the permission of BIFR for allowing Chhabria to put his money in the form of equity, expressing hope that the board would give its permission. After remaining closed for more than two years since February 1998, the company lifted closure at the Sahagunj (West Bengal) and Ambattur (Tamil Nadu) plants. The statement quoted Chhabria as saying that as Dunlop brand commanded a premium in the market, the company would be able to regain the lost market share.

Sony India opens website

NEW DELHI: SONY India Ltd, a 100 per cent arm of 63 billion dollars Japanese electronics giant Sony Corporation, today announced the opening of its website in a bid to push up the sales of its products. The company, in a statement, said the site named sonyindia.co.in will showcase all the products available in the company’s portfolio. The site which will allow users to access the company’s 1,800 dealers in the country will also include Sony’s service centres. The company has categorised products like colour televisions, hi-fi systems, video CD players and telephones under different heads like Sony at home, office and on the move to enable the internet browser to look at all the company’s products. The site also provides global links to all the Sony sites across the world. Links will also be given from the Sony global site and the Asia Pacific page to the Sony India site.

CA enters agreement with Redington

NEW DELHI: SOFTWARE giant computer Associates (CA) today entered into an agreement with Redington India for the distribution of its products in the country. "CA has successful distributor tie-ups with Sonata and datapro and is committed to enabling its channel partners to serve its customers better across various market segments," Venkat Subbarao, senior vice president (South and South East Asia) of CA said in a statement here. Under the agreement, Redington would leverage CA technology through its business partners to provide corporate customers in India, manageable and reliable business systems, the statement added.

Timex to infuse $5 m in Indian arm

NEW DELHI: TIMEX Watches B V, the parent company of Timex Watches Ltd (TWL), will infuse fresh equity to the indian subsidiary to the tune of five million dollars to boost its manufacturing and marketing programme. The board of directors of Timex Watches Ltd has approved a fresh infusion of equity via a preferential issue of equity shares in favour of Timex Watches B V. The fresh fund inflow is in addition to the equity infusion of 2.5 million dollars made in March 2000. “This further equity infusion following the one in March is a tremendous boost to our manufacturing and marketing programme,” said Richard Masilamani, MD, TWL. The fresh flow of funds was aimed at improving Timex’s market share and reducing its reliance on borrowings and interest expenses leading to an improved net worth, he added.

Kahalgao thermal plant to expand

KAHALGAO (BIHAR): THE Bihar State Pollution Control Board today gave its clearance for the expansion programme of Kahalgao thermal plant, an unit of National Thermal Power Corporation, paving the way for the construction of a power unit with a capacity of 1,320 mw. Official sources said here that prior to the clearance by the Pollution Control Board, its chairman held a peoples court to seek their opinion on the likely fallout on the pollution after the implementation of the expansion programme. The clearance was given as the people did not object to the second stage expansion programme after the chairman confirmed them that the NTPC had taken necessary preventive measures for controlling the level of pollution emanating from the proposed plant. Kahalgao unit of NTPC had the installed capacity of 2,800 mw whereas the power plant with the capacity of 840 mw was generating power presently.
