CHANDIGARH, June 18: The Chandigarh Housing Board has auctioned 20 commercial booths at its housing complex in Maloya.

These booths were lying unallotted since their construction in 1989. A key item in the Administrator’s Advisory Council was that the CHB should dispose off its commercial booths which had not been allotted and were rapidly deteriorating and inviting misuse.

An auction for these booths was earlier held in September 1996, in which only two booths were auctioned. Again in November 1996, an auction was held but no booth was sold. However, in this auction, the board succeeded in auctioning 20 booths. The Chief Executive Officer of the Board, Rinku Dhugga, presided over the auction in which about 75 bidders participated.

Of the 89 commercial booths constructed by the CHB at its housing complex in Maloya, 72 have now been auctioned. At an auction held earlier during the year, 35 booths had been sold, leaving only 17 commercial booths to be disposed off.
