CHANDIGARH, Dec 13: Chandigarh team, trained by former international Harjinder Singh, emerged champions in the North Zone National Football Championship (under-21) and lifted the M Dutta trophy in Varanasi today.
According to information received by Rakesh Bakshi, secretary of the Chandigarh Football Association, Chandigarh team defeated hosts Uttar Pradesh by 2-1 in the final played today. The teams were tied one-all at half time.
Right striker Mohan Singh scored both the goals for the winners.Yesterday, Chandigarh had shocked Punjab in the semi-final by 2-0. Munish and Mohan Singh were the scorers. In the second semi-final Uttar Pradesh defeated Delhi by an identical 2-0 margin.
Iriyakot `A’ win
Iriyakot `A’ scored a 15-6, 16-15, 10-15, 15-12 win over Tarkeshwar `A’ to win the title in the volleyball tournament organised by Iriyakot Malla Bhartri Sangathan at Sector 30 ground.
Earlier, in the semifinals, Tarkeshwar `A’ beat Uttrakhand Club 15-3, 16-14, 15-5 while Iriyakot `A’ defeated Iriyakot `B’ 15-7, 15-8, 5-9.
Manoj Rawat of the Iriyakot `B’ got the best player’s award in the meet.
