CHANDIGARH, Dec 13: Chandigarh team, trained by former international Harjinder Singh, emerged champions in the North Zone National Football Championship (under-21) and lifted the M Dutta trophy in Varanasi today.

According to information received by Rakesh Bakshi, secretary of the Chandigarh Football Association, Chandigarh team defeated hosts Uttar Pradesh by 2-1 in the final played today. The teams were tied one-all at half time.

Right striker Mohan Singh scored both the goals for the winners.Yesterday, Chandigarh had shocked Punjab in the semi-final by 2-0. Munish and Mohan Singh were the scorers. In the second semi-final Uttar Pradesh defeated Delhi by an identical 2-0 margin.

Iriyakot A’ win
Iriyakot A’ scored a 15-6, 16-15, 10-15, 15-12 win over Tarkeshwar A’ to win the title in the volleyball tournament organised by Iriyakot Malla Bhartri Sangathan at Sector 30 ground.

Earlier, in the semifinals, Tarkeshwar A’ beat Uttrakhand Club 15-3, 16-14, 15-5 while Iriyakot A’ defeated Iriyakot B’ 15-7, 15-8, 5-9.

Manoj Rawat of the Iriyakot B’ got the best player’s award in the meet.
