CHANDIGARH, January 13: Trials to select the Chandigarh junior and senior men’s weightlifting team for the forthcoming Nationals will be held on January 17 at Weightlifting Coaching Centre, Sector 30 at 10.00 a.m.

The 36th junior National meet will be held at Jamshedpur from Feburary 4 to 8 while the 50th senior National is slated to be held at the same venue from Feburary 11 to 15.

Amitinder shines

Amitinder Singh of Panjab University bagged the gold medal in the 4,000 metres individual pursuit in the All India Inter-University Cycling Championship which recently concluded at Panjab Agriculture University Velodrome, Ludhiana.

Amitinder, a B Com first year student of SD College, Sector 32, also got the silver medal in the 4,000 metres time trial and bronze in team time trial (1,500m). The other members of the PU cycling team were — Rajesh Dalal, Amanjeet Singh and Sikander Singh. Rajesh Dalal, a BA first year student also claimed the bronze medal in the 1000 metres sprint.

Karate team win

Panchkula karate team won five silver and a bronze in the Second Haryana state karate championship which recently concluded at Rohtak from January 8 to 11. In the boys category, Ankur Gupta (below 20 kg), Vishal Sharma (below 32 kg), Yogesh Khanna (below 42 kg) and Manish (below 65 kg) got silver medal while Raj Kumar got bronze in above 65 kg.

In the women’s section Shallu Sood got a silver medal in the below 40 kg.
