Parleys on to keep BJP8217;s allies happy
With President K R Narayanan formally inviting Atal Behari Vajpayee to be sworn in on October 13 at 10.31 am in the fore-court of Rashtrapati Bhavan, hectic activity has begun at the Prime Minister8217;s official residence towards government formation.

Though the Telugu Desam Party and the Indian National Lok Dal have decided not to join the NDA government for their own 8220;domestic political reasons,8221; Vajpayee was grappling until late tonight to keep his alliance partners happy by offering them a reasonable number of berths and key portfolios.

Sonia loyalists want her to take on LS challenge
As Congress president Sonia Gandhi gets ready to take over as chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party CPP tomorrow, when the election is scheduled, who will occupy the post of the leader of the party in the Lok Sabha remains uncertain.

Party sources say Sonia would be elected CPP chairperson unanimously at the crucial meeting tomorrow, the first since it suffered its worst-ever electoral debacle. However, whether she will continue with the earlier arrangement of nominating someone to lead the party in the Lok Sabha or decide to take on the responsibility herself remains to be seen.
