
The government on Thursday cleared six proposals for setting up special economic zones, taking the total to more than 450 SEZ. The Board of Approval , chaired by commerce secretary Gopal Pillai, gave formal approvals to five and one in-principle for an engineering SEZ in Maharashtra to MIDC. Apart from the six, the board also granted formal approvals to 449 SEZs.
Of the five approved on Thursday, four are to set up IT/ ITES zones by Brigade Enterprises in Karnataka, Wellgrow Buildcon and Sunwise Properties in Haryana and Smart City Kochi Infrastructure in Kerala. Also, a biotech project in Andhra Pradesh by Vivo Bio Tech Ltd was given approval.
