Criticising the economic policies of the UPA government, CPM state secretariat member and senior leader Benoy Konar said the policy makers at the Centre are ardent followers of US and the World Bank policies. He was addressing a gathering of teachers’ wing of the CPM on Monday.
Konar said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, a follower of the WB policies, has been made Finance Minister. Referring to the news making rounds that Montek Singh Ahluwalia will be appointed as the finance minister, Konar said, “ Ahluwalia has worked 11 years for the World Bank and 4 years for the IMF.”
The CPM leader said:”Sonia Gandhi said since Indira Gandhi had nationalised the banks, these have remained stable during recession. But the UPA government has spoiled it by opening the banking and insurance sector for foreign investment.” Konar said the recession has affected the upper middle class.
