MUMBAI, DEC 18: Central Bank scored a 3-1 victory over Nobody Sports in the Bombay Hockey Association senior division league at Mahindras Stadium today. Central Bank went into the lead in the 26th minute through Gilbert Bothelo. Nobody drew level in the second half through Sunil D’Sa. Srinivas Lapalikar (49th) and Douglas Rodricks (65th) later scored for Central Bank.

In a first division match earlier, Catholic Gymkhana defeated State Bank 4-2. Catholic led 4-0 through strikes by Valerian Picardo (1), Linus Gonsalves (1) and Agnelo Picardo (2). State Bank reduced the margin through Vinod Furtado (59th) and Samik Biswas (62nd).

ST ANDREW’s, Bandra defeated Holy Family, Andheri 3-0 to advance into the next round of the Boys U-14 MSSA-Colgate inter-school hockey tournament, for Fr Donnelly Cup, on home turf today.

Malaysian visitors lose
Bombay Gymkhana scored a four-wicket victory over Malaysian under-15 cricket team at their ground today. Batting first, the Malaysians posted 174 for three in the stipulated 30 overs, helped by a century from S Vickneswaran. Satyajit Seshadri (94) shone for hosts.

Brief scores: Malaysia 174-3 in 30 overs (S Vickneswaran 104, Tamilarasan not out 31) lost to Bombay Gymkhana 175-6 in 28.5 overs (Satyajit Seshadri 94, Sameer Patkar 40 not out, Pengiran Aizuddin 3-34)

Sahil pips Supreet
Sahil Vora of Cathedral & John before pulled off a sensational 3-2 win over Supreet Singh to enter the boys under-17 final in the Air-India-SRAM Junior squash third-leg at CCI today. In the most interesting match of the day, Vora posted a stunning come-from-behind win after trailing for most part of the gruelling one-hour contest. Vorawon 5-9, 9-5, 9-10, 9-6, 9-5.

Supreet looked comfortable in the fifth and final game with a 5-3 lead. But two errors, including hitting the tin on one occasion proved costly. Vora seized the opportunity and came up with timely winners to take the match.

Andheri YMCA in semis
Hosts Andheri YMCA edged out School of Basketball 34-25 to enter the semi-finals of the first Bombay YMCA open basketball tournament today. School of Basketball could not break the tight man-to-man marking deployed by Andheri, who enjoyed a distinct height advantage. The visitors’ mainstay Chinmay Bhandarkar was also off-colour.
