New Delhi April 13: The Cabinet Committee on Prices (CCP) today approved an additional export of 50,000 tonnes of onions of all varieties during April and May this year in view of adequate availability of domestic stocks.
The production of onion is expected to touch 47.5 lakh tonnes during 1999-2000 as against the consumption of 39 lakh tonnes. The Government has already approved export of 2 lakh tonnes of onion between December 1, 1999 and March 31, 2000.
The export will be done by the Nafed, Karnataka State Agriculture Marketing Federation, and Maharashtra State Agriculture Marketing Federation.
The CCP also decided to allow free export of “Bangalore rose” onions and “Krishnapatanam” onions, an official spokesperson said after the meeting.
The CCP also approved reduction in the central issue price (CIP) of palmolein oil sold in bulk to the State Governments from Rs 20,000 per tonne to Rs 18,000 per tonne.
Besides, it also reduced the palmolein oil sold in 15 kg tins from Rs 22,000 per tonne to Rs 20,000 per tonne with immediate effect.
This is in view of fall in palmolein prices in the international and domestic market.
In order to ensure fair price to rubber growers, the Government authorised State Trading Corporation (STC) to procure 20,000 tonnes of international rubber at the prevailing market price not exceeding Rs 34.05 per kg against advance licence of the actual users. This will be reviewed after six months.
The CCP, chaired by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, also reviewed availability and price situation of essential commodities. It was of the view that the stocks of these commodities are adequate and price situation stable.
It also noted that the annual rate of inflation in terms of wholesale price index “of all commodities” stood at 3.74 per cent during the week ended March 25, 2000, as against 4.81 per cent during the corresponding period of the previous year.
The inflation during the period under review this year is one of the lowest in the last four years of this period, the spokesperson said.
