MUMBAI, OCT 30: A workshop for children was organised by Cartoon Express on Saturday at Y B Chavan Centre. Called Toon Tamasha8217;, it covered various aspects of cartooning. The workshop began with Purnima Sampat, art teacher of the J B Petit School, reassuring the children that cartooning did not require great art skills. Her discussion covered expression, action, lettering and colour involved in cartooning. Practical demonstrations and brainstorming sessions on different ideas evoked many interesting and humorous responses from the audience.
The chief guests for the workshop were Vikram, a Channel V veejay, and Leena Mogre, an aerobics instructor, who were dressed up as Archie and Veronica. quot;This is a great chance to develop artistic talents and I thoroughly enjoyed the interactive session where the children gave their ideas on cartooning,quot; said Vikram.
After learning the basic techniques of cartooning, the children8217;s skills were put to test. The competition that followed required them to choosea character from Cartoon Express and illustrate a given joke, using their own interpretations.
The judges were Chithra Mitra, a noted cartoonist, and Sampat who had a tough time making their decisions. While they were evaluating the entries, the children were treated to refreshments from Croissants.
The chief guests gave away prizes sponsored by Camlin to the winners. Besides navy blue Cartoon Express T-shirts, all the participants received bowling coupons from Superdrome, certificates and art material. One of the parents, Pratima Gaitonde, said, quot;There are many art competitions, but one on cartooning was a new experience altogether.quot;
