CHANDIGARH, Aug 19: The Punjab University has expressed serious concern over the seats in the engineering colleges which are left vacant after the admitted students against these seats take admission in other colleges.
The incharge of the Joint Admission to B.E./B.Arch courses, D.K. Vohra, said that seats in the various engineering courses go unfilled as students take admission in different colleges simultaneously, barring the chance of other students. quot;Centralised admissions to various engineering colleges with a joint entrance test and counselling session in the UT and Punjab can help do away with the practice of applying in more than one college simultaneously,quot; he said. quot;Later new admissions can8217;t be made as the last counselling and admission dates are over.quot; said Vohra.
quot;Nearly 40 seats were vacant in the Chemical Engineering course last year for the same reason but this year there were only nine dropouts. At present, seats in the all branches have been filled, but we are expecting more dropouts as counselling sessions in Punjab begin tomorrow and some students might take admissions there. At the end of the week if the dropout rate is high, we will consider another round of counselling but if it is low, we will route the admissions through the respective colleges.quot;
