Cabinet adds to central OBC list across 11 states

The Union Cabinet here today approved the inclusion of more castes in the central list of Other Backward Classes OBC with regard to 11 states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi.

Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee said after the Cabinet meeting that the additions, which do not belong to the creamy layer, would get the benefit of reservation in direct recruitment in civil services and posts under the Central Government. They would also qualify for financial assistance from the National Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation for skill development and setting up of self-employment ventures.

The communities included are:

Sikligar and Siddula Andhra, Bakho Muslim and Thakurai Muslim Bihar, Rai Sikh- Mahtam Delhi, Barai and Chaurasia as synonyms of of Tamoli, Kurmi Sainthawar, Kurmi Mall as sub-caste of Kurmi and Unai Sahu UP, Bhandari-Naik Goa, Dhangar as a synonym of Bharwad and Jagri, Khavas and Sagar Gujarat, Aryakshatriya and Sarige as synonyms of Somavamsha Aryakshatriya and Hindu Sadaru Karnataka, Twashta Kasar, Kansar as synonym of Tambat, Kurmi as synonym of Kunbi and Yellam/Yelam Maharashtra, Asini Patara, Aswini and Aswini Patara, Rangini Hansi as synonyms of Hansi, Tanti Orissa.
