After the Tatas and the Jindals, it was the turn of London-based industrialist and the world’s fifth richest man Lakshmi Niwas Mittal to look for investment opportunities in West Bengal. The industrialist met Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee at Writers’ Building for a 1 hour 15 minutes-long meeting on Sunday.

“I have met the chief minister for the first time and I am happy that he has given me so much time. Though we did not discuss any specific project, we focused on possible investment projects here. We discussed various global issues and how West Bengal has transformed itself. Buddhadeb explained to us the scene in the state and there will be follow-up meetings,” said Mittal, chief of the 54-billion-dollar Mittal group.

The industrialist, who hails from Kolkata, was in town to attend a private wedding party. “I have come to Kolkata after many years and I have seen a lot of changes — new flyovers, roads. Under the leadership of the chief minister, the state has developed a lot,” said Mittal.

He added that the chief minister has offered him to invest in the petroleum, chemicals and petro-chemicals investment region (PCPIR) in the Haldia-Nayachar area during their meeting.
