Meanwhile, during a conversation with India Today, Sholay screenwriter Javed Akhtar remembered Dharmendra and shared, “He was an extremely dignified person. And that person had a sense of humour. He would laugh at you, laugh with you, narrate jokes to you. He just didn’t know how to handle praise. He used to blush. If you praise Dharam ji, he would blush and feel very uncomfortable. He had this humanity. He was a combination of virtues which are possibility not compatible.”

He added, “He was a polite, decent, simple, innocent person that you could see in Anupama. He had a great sense of humour, and a very earthy sense of humour, that you can see in Chupke Chupke. He was a powerful man, and you can see that in some of his action films. He was a man with a lot of enthusiasm — flirtatious and humour — and that you can see in Sholay. These roles are the extension of some side of personality.”
