Here8217;s art for a cause. City based artist Prem Singh is one of the 74, and India8217;s only artist, to be featured in a book titled Freedom and Art through an event called 8220;Set a Book Free8221; on October 2 when all artists featured within the pages of the book will place a copy in a public location to raise interest. A collaborative effort by the Mirca Art Group, the book is an international coalition of professional artists and is set for release tomorrow. Artists from worldover have come together to raise voice in support of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been under house arrest in Myanmar for the past 18 years over her bid for political freedom. 8220;To keep the flow life freedom is a must. Suu Kyi8217;s struggle is very humanistic with an obvious concern to fulfill man8217;s aspirations. The struggle may go on for years and years but nobody can deny the eternal truth that life thrives on freedom. If it is Suu Kyi8217;s it should be the concern of the global society.8221;

Each work of art is accompanied by a statement about the synergy of freedom and art in the world. Singh shares, 8220;Freedom is imbibed in art. I never felt any kind of restraint from anywhere while expressing my inner voice into visual voice. As long as the child is alive in me, the freedom of expression happens.8221; Singh believes that an artist plays an important role in the society, 8220;An artist is a thinking man. He lives in the society and through his artistic expressions highlights his visionary concerns by making visible from the invisible with obvious urge to share with the art lovers,8221; meaning that the society and the artist are knit in a permanent bond. But the relationship isn8217;t always warm. 8220;Works of art have often come under the 8216;moral8217; scanner. When they are given a form hitherto unknown to the eyes of the society, sometimes illiterate, ignorant and inflammatory charges are inflicted upon an isolated artist with the deliberate intent of paralysing him,8221; he signs off.
