
A Five-year-old boy was killed and his 13-year-old sister was seriously wounded when they were caught in a crossfire between the Army and armed ULFA militants at a village in Tinsukia district of Upper Assam today.
While Debajit Moran was killed on the spot, his sister Dipanjali, who sustained grievious bullet injuries, has been shifted to the Assam Medical College Hospital at Dibrugarh.
Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner A K Absar Hazarika said that a group of jawans belonging to the 19 Kumaon Regiment during patrol found a newly dug pit in the backyard of a house. On close inspection and digging of the pit, they recovered some explosives, a battery, some wire and two mobile phones.
Even as this recovery was being carried out, the jawans were fired upon from the adjacent house, which led to an exchange of fire. 8220;While a five-year-old boy died on the spot, his sister was seriously injured,8221; the DC said.
He also said the army also recovered about 400 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition, one live AK-47 magazine, two more mobile phones, one extra sim-card and several incriminating documents from the house in which the militants were hiding. The house belonged to Kushal Moran, whose son was killed and daughter injured in the crossfire.
