CHANDIGARH, MARCH 14: City got its first bonedensitometry centre here today in Sector 20. The centre will help orthopaedics in detecting and diagnosing cases of osteoporosis. O. N. Nagi, the head of Orthopaedic department, PGI inaugurated the centre. Talking to mediapersons Dr Nagi said, quot;Chandigarh is one place where medical facilities of every kind are available. But the city was lacking such a centre which could help orthopaedic patients especially in cases of osteoporosis.quot;
Elaborating on the disease Dr Nagi said, quot;The bones of the patient start losing calcium and if not treated well in time they become porous. That8217;s the time when patients are restricted to their beds and fail to get up.quot;
Earlier detection of the disease can prove to be a boon for the patient since then it is curable and that8217;s where bonedensitometry can prove to be helpful, said Dr Nagi.
