A remix queen finds herself starring in a red underwear in a lewd MMS. A starlet cries foul about a fake Yahoo profile that describes her as a ‘‘high-class call girl’’. But unlike the obscene MMS clip of a Delhi school girl in December 2004, or even that of actor Kareena Kapoor kissing beau Shahid, the latest ‘‘scandals’’ to break over Bollywood lend themselves to outrageous PR stunts rather than outrage over technology gone wild.
The women in question are Rakhi Sawant, known for her appearances in remixes, and Kainaaz Pervees, a starlet.
Both star in a D-grade thriller, Khamoshh, and both have been involved with stunts to grab eyeballs for the film, made by actor-turned-director Deepak Tijori (who made Oops, his debut striptease flick in 2003).
Tijori denies this is a publicity stunt. ‘‘I have no idea how Rakhi’s clip got out. We even deleted the scene from the film,’’ he said. ‘‘I have no hand in this. Anyway, if I had to do a publicity stunt then I would have done it before the release.’’
But since the publicity of Khamoshh began, new controversies became the fodder of local tabloids. The Indian Express presents the Khamoshh files:
Censor Board: Earlier this month, Tijori cried that he’s being victimised by the Censor Board. ‘‘The last time I met the board, they treated me really bad. But I haven’t given up hope,’’ he said. The board had objected to a scene on Sawant in a bath tub. Her derriere was peeking out of a red undergarment. They also wanted a lovemaking scene starring Pervees to be cut.
Cat fight: Two weeks ago, Sawant and Pervees called each other names in print. Pervees wanted to know: ‘‘What has Rakhi done to become a star? I think there is undue publicity being given to her.’’ Sawant said: ‘‘Kainaaz has done this hot suhaag raat scene and even has six smooching scenes; I have just shown my posterior. Maybe she’s jealous.’’
Kiss and make up: The next day, the starlets made up at a party with a liplock. ‘‘Rakhi got over-emotional and kissed me. We resolved all our differences,’’ said Pervees.
Incidentally, both the starlets claim an actor is behind the August 24 episodes. While Sawant feels ‘‘some actor must have done masti by releasing the clip,’’ Pervees says that her fake profile — which she freely shares — must be a handiwork of a co-star with whom she had trouble during shooting. Pervees’s profile also quotes rates: Rs 20,000 for one hour, Rs 50,000 for one night and Rs 75,000 for the weekend.
