
VADODARA, June 22: Even as Vadodara received more rains during the last 24 hours, the Flood Control Room received four rowing boats to be pressed into service in the wake of flooding in the low lying villages in the district, an administration spokesman said here on Tuesday.
According to the spokesman, this was the first time that the district had received boats. A dialogue was on to get two dozen life-jackets from Gandhinagar. Two boats each have been sent for use during the monsoon to the major ponds in Padra and Bapot, the spokesman said. Bapot already has a motorboat.
Meanwhile, the Cyclone Testing System installed at the district collectorate premises for the past couple of years has not started functioning yet. According to the spokesman, it was tested on Monday and found to be non-functional. The Metereological Department, Gandhinagar, has been apprised of the problem and is likely to send a repair team soon.
The spokesman added that as many as 13 de-watering pumps had also been supplied to the district, 10 of which were handed over to the Panchayat department to be placed in the low-lying villages. The rest were kept in Gotri.
Meanwhile, almost all the district8217;s talukas recorded rains on Tuesday. During the last 24 hours ending at 8 am, Jetpurpavi had recorded 5 mm total rainfall so far 65 mm, Dabhoi, 10 mm 72 mm, Chhotaudepur, 8 mm 56 mm, Naswadi, 20 mm 87 mm, Padra, 3 mm 42 mm, Waghodia, 6 mm 86 mm, Savli, 51 mm 147 mm, Shinor, 11 mm 58 mm, Sankheda, 20 mm 124 mm and Kwant, 19 mm total 65 mm. Karjan taluka, which had so far received 198 mm rainfall, did not receive rain during the past 24 hours till Tuesday morning.
