NAGPUR, January 4: The future political scenario in the state is bleak with the BJP-Shiv Sena government proving no better than the Congress, social crusader G R Khairnar said.Addressing a press conference here, Khairnar said people's hopes had been belied by the non-implementation of promises by the Sena- BJP government.Khairnar, who waged a fearless battle against the builders' lobby in Maharashtra, said the government had promised houses to 10 lakh slum dwellers, jobs, safety of weaker sections and action against wrongdoers after it came to power three years ago. These promises had not been fulfilled, he charged.Referring to the anti-poor stand of the state government, Khairnar said that while no illegal constructions of the rich had been razed, thousands of slums and other encroachments had been demolished. The promise of providing 10 lakh good houses to the people had been partially fulfilled with the construction of a palatial house by Bal Thackeray. As far as generating employment was concerned, only Raj and Uddhav Thackeray had been offered good jobs. Calling Bal Thackeray a `Dhongi' (impersonator), Khairnar said his words and actions differed in all respects.Khairnar, who has been touring the country on invitations from various social organisations to protest against injustice in their respective areas, said he tried and failed to form a group to fight against corruption. He had been in touch with Vineet Narayan of `Kalchakra' video news fame, Kiran Bedi, social worker Alphonso and said he hoped to form a good front.Asked why he had not joined hands with social crusader Anna Hazare, Khairnar said Hazare had to prove his own `credentials' first. Although Hazare claimed to have led a selfless life, he had equipped the temple complex in his village with modern facilities at a massive cost. Hazare had his own fully-furnished chamber.Khairnar had been sent feelers by Samajwadi Party's Mulayam Singh and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Kanshi Ram who sought his support recently for the election. Kanshi Ram even promised to make him the Chief Minister if BSP came to power in Maharashtra. Khairnar said he spurned the offer. While refusing to give the BJP-Shiv Sena a clean chit, Khairnar said the proposed combination of Sharad Pawar, Mulayam Singh Yadav and the Gawli gang would be more `dangerous' than the present government. Referring to Bal Thackeray's stand against him, Khairnar said Thackeray should get his own credentials checked before pointing fingers at others.
