CHAMBA, May 25: Congress leader Virbhadra Singh today alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party did not have any base in the tribal areas of the state and that by giving different statements to tribals and non-tribals, he was misleading the people.

The former chief minister was talking to media persons at the local Circuit House today. He said the tribals knew very well that only Congress could safeguard their interests. He said the tribal status was a creation of the Congress, so that the neglected could be uplifted by giving a special status.

He hit out at the Chief Minister for making false public speeches that the Congress had not carried out any relief work in Riangpoh by saying that during the Congress rule four damaged bridges were constructed besides the huge repair of the roads. He said the BJP government will construct the Wangtoo bridge by June 15, but this cannot be credited to the BJP as it was during the Congress rule that the bialy bridge had been purchased. He congratulated the engineers of Border Road Organisations for carrying out this tough task within a short time span.

Replying to a question regarding the chargesheet framed aganst HVC president Sukh Ram, he said that it was personal vendetta and that the charges had been proved baseless in the court of Lok Ayukat, special courts, HP High Court and in the Supreme Court of India.
