Maruti 800, Zen to cost more
NEW DELHI:
Prices of Maruti cars including 800 cc and Zen will go up by about Rs 18,000 to Rs 24,000 from January 3 due to increased input costs and compliance of emission norms, highly placed company sources said. The prices of all the three variants of Maruti-800, the bread and butter model of Maruti Udyog Ltd MUL, will be hiked by about Rs 22,000. With the new prices, Maruti-800 SD, EX and DLX versions will cost about Rs 2.13 lakh, Rs 2.34 lakh and Rs 2.59 lakh respectively, sources said. The popular Zen model prices would be increased by Rs 21,000-24,000. The present prices of Zen LX, VX and VXI versions are Rs 2.97 lakh, Rs 3.43 lakh and Rs 3.62 lakhs respectively. The euro-II version of Zen is priced Rs 3.80 lakh at present while Zen Classic and Zen Diesel carry price tags of Rs 4.26 lakh and Rs 3.63 lakh. Omni prices would be hiked in the range of Rs 22,000 to Rs 24,000. Price increase in case of Esteem would be between Rs 16,000 to Rs 19,000 while the Gypsywould be costlier by Rs 21,000 to Rs 24,000, sources added.

Pamp;G chief Patel to relinquish charge
MUMBAI:
Procter amp; Gamble Hygiene and Health Care chairman and managing director Bharat Patel is relinquishing executive responsibility at Pamp;G in India with effect from December 31, 1999. Announcing this, a company press release added that Patel would continue as the non-executive chairman of Pamp;G and director on the boards of Pamp;G Bangladesh and Pamp;G Sri Lanka. Subsequent to Patel relinquishment, the company will be run by the executive director Ashok Chhabra along with the other board members.

Govt to trim down AI, IA management

The government is considering trimming the quot;top-heavyquot; managements of Air India and Indian Airlines and optimise fleet utilisation to turn these organisations into profit-making ones, Civil Aviation Minister Sharad Yadav said today.quot;There is an army of 37 directorsquot; in these national carriers and the structure of management has become disproportionate andtop-heavy, Yadav told the Lok Sabha while replying to a half-hour discussion on the financial health of the two airlines.
