Bank unions plan strike

MUMBAI: The United Forum of Bank Unions has planned a day’s strike next month as part of its action plan to protest against the Verma committee’s recommendations on weak public sector banks. The date of the strike would be announced later, UFBU said in a statement here today. Prior to the strike, from October 27 onwards the employees would stage demonstrations in front of bank branches and their head offices, the statement said. In the second week of November, seminars would be held in state capitals.

Hyundai Accent priced at Rs 5.35 lakh

NEW DELHI: Taking Maruti Esteem and Fiat Siena head on, Korean auto giant Hyundai today launched its mid-sized car "Accent" in three versions aggressively priced between Rs 5.35 lakh to Rs 5.85 lakh. The base version GLE’ would carry a price tag of Rs 5.35 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) while the GLE model with power steering would be available in the capital at a higher price of Rs 5.60 lakh, Hyundai (India) president A P Gandhisaid. The top end model GLS’ has been priced at Rs 5.85 lakh and bookings for these models would start from October 21.

Ford’s Ikon may cost Rs 4.99 lakh

NEW DELHI: Ford India is likely to price the base model of its mid-size car Ikon just below Rs five lakh, undercutting most of the competitors in the segment. Against the Rs 5.35 lakh price tag for the base model of Hyundai’s accent which was announced here today, the entry level Ikon would carry a price tag of Rs 499,677 (Delhi). Officially the pricing would be announced on October 26 in the capital.
