Soccer star Bhaichung Bhutia, recovering from an arthoscopy for a torn cartilage, would begin training two weeks from now and was hoping to be fit for India’s last pre-World Cup match against Oman on October 22.
“I will start training after two weeks. And I hope to play India’s last World Cup qualifier,” he told reporters here.
The Indian captain, who sustained the damage during the LG Cup in Vietnam in August, had undergone arthoscopy on his left knee and was ruled out of the World Cup qualifier against Japan here on September 8 after being advised rest for three to six weeks.
He also had to opt out of East Bengal’s AFC Cup quarterfinal against Syrian outfit Al Jaish on September 15 and the upcoming away game in Damascus on September 22.
“I’m improving. My condition is getting better and better,” he said last night.
Asked about his club’s away fixture against Al Jaish, Bhutia said “I’m praying that we do well. I hope we do not lose chances. We have to score from the chances which come our way.”
