BANGALORE, MARCH 21: Opposition BJP on Tuesday called off its dharna launched yesterday in the Karnataka Assembly, following an assurance by the government to table two judicial commission of inquiry reports including on Bhatkal riots, but staged a walkout on rejection of their demand for a CBI probe into the murder of Congress MLA Vasanth Asnotikar. The House commenced proceedings 80 minutes beyond schedule to facilitate negotiations between the government and the BJP to find a solution to the crisis, triggered off by the dharna. When the House assembled, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs D B Chandregowda announced that the government would place before the House, the reports of K Jagannatha Shetty Commission of Inquiry and that of the Ramachandra Judicial Commission, which probed the 1992 Bhatkal riots and BJP MLA U Chittaranjan killing during the current session. He said the government would discuss the issue at its Cabinet meeting and consult Opposition prior to the tabling of the reports in the House.Chandregowda, however, turned the BJP demand for a CBI probe into the Feb 19 gunning down of Congress MLA Asnotikar in Karwar, saying such a step was not advisable at this stage as the Corps of Detectives (CoD) probing the case was in its final lap of completing investigation and appealed to Opposition party to call off the dharna. The BJP members led by its leader Jagadish Shettar, protesting against the rejection of their demand, staged a walkout.
