Family of off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, banned from playing in the remainder of the Indian Premier League matches for slapping S Sreesanth at Mohali, on Monday shut the doors of its house for media.

Media thronged to Harbhajan’s house situated in a tight street of Daulat Puri area after the ban was announced but despite continuously pressing the doorbell, nobody responded and after about an hour it was conveyed that no one from the family wanted to speak to the reporters.

Attempts were also made to contact the family members on telephone and to Bhajji on his mobile, but the efforts left the media disappointed.

When contacted, Harbhajan’s cousin Kartar Singh said that the family was not interested to talk to the media.

Asked about his comments on the punishment, Kartar said, “Once Bhajji admitted his mistake and even felt apologetic to the incident, the authorities should have adopted a sympathetic attitude to the off-spinner, but the punishment was too harsh for the star cricketer”.

“I request the media to support Bhajji, as it always did and don’t disturb the family, which is already under shock due to the announced punishment,” he added.
