CHENNAI, Jan 11: Bengal beat Punjab by five wickets to earn a Wills Trophy semi-final berth at the Chidambaram Stadium here on Tuesday. Punjab raised visions of a contest by prising out the first three Bengal wickets for 60.

However, the fourth-wicket stand between Srikant Kalyani (81 173m, 104b, 12×4) and Saba Karim (32, 53b, 3×4, 1×6) altered the course of the match.Bengal take on Board President’s XI in the semis to be played here on Jan 16.

Protests in Ladakh turned violent as students and youth organisations demanded statehood and Sixth Schedule status. Two elderly protesters fainted, prompting a shutdown call. A BJP office and security vehicle were set on fire. Activist Sonam Wangchuk urged for a peaceful approach.
