MUMBAI, July 18: The ambitious plan of the Board of Control for Cricket in India to improve the standard of pitches and grounds in the country is yet to take off in serious vein.
The BCCI’s working committee, at its Mumbai sitting last April, had appointed former India captain Kapil Dev as chief director of grounds and pitches with five other zonal directors under him.
It was also announced that the cricket luminary would be paid an honorarium of Rs 30,000 per month.
But Kapil has returned the first cheque given to him as even preliminary discussions on the issue are yet to be held, according to sources.
The BCCI also invited two soil experts from New Zealand at the end of the last domestic season to collect soil samples from various venues hosting matches under the jurisdiction of the Board.
