Border guards of Bangladesh and India today issued 8216;8216;high alert8217;8217; by hoisting red flags at a point in northwestern part of the country over barbed wire fencing, the official BSS news agency said.
The 8216;8216;high alert8217;8217; was issued in Birampur border in Dinajpur district after two flag-meetings failed to reduce tension sparked by Border Security Force BSF attempts to erect barbed fencing.
BSF intensified strength at the frontier prompting Bangladesh officials to caution villagers against violence, BSS said quoting witnesses and Bangladesh Rifles BDR sources.
BDR officials alleged BSF troops started to erect the fencing in 500 yards area overnight on the zero line near the international pillar number 295 by mobilising equipment and several hundred labourers. This forced the Bangladesh Rifles to register an immediate protest.
