Bangladesh were forced to follow on as South Africa moved closer to victory on the third day of the first Test at Buffalo Park today.

Bangladesh were 32 for one wicket in their second innings at lunch after being bowled out for 170 in the first innings. They still needed 327 to avoid an innings defeat. Javed Omar was the man out in Bangladesh’s second innings, caught at gully off Mornantau Hayward for 10 after he and Al Shariar put on 22 for the first wicket.

Fast bowler Makhaya Ntini took two of the three remaining first innings wickets today to finish with five for 19, his second five-wicket haul in Tests. David Terbrugge took the final wicket and had two for 44. It took South Africa 50 minutes this morning to wrap up the innings. Bangladesh had resumed at 153 for seven. Ntini and Terbrugge then took the new ball at the start of the second innings but failed to make a breakthrough and were rested after three overs each as Omar and Al Shariar made a solid start. Hayward, who opened the bowling in the first innings, took a wicket in his fourth over when he came on as first change, getting Omar to play away from his body and edging a sharp catch to Herschelle Gibbs.
