The Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) has demolished two camps of Indian militants in its territory, a senior BSF officer said here on Wednesday. “The BDR has demolished two camps in Chittagong Hills Tracts that belonged to Indian militant groups prior to the DG-level conference between the frontier guards of the two countries,” IG BSF (Assam-Meghalaya frontier) P K Mishra told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

“The operation was carried out sometime in September. Our representatives have visited the demolished camps, and we have confirmed the BDR operation,” he said.

Mishra said this information was shared by the BDR in the last biennial conference between the two border forces held in Dhaka in the last week of October. “But there has not been any new development, which the Bangladesh force has shared with the BSF after October.” Mishra described the relationship with the BDR as cordial.

Asked about the militant group to which the camps belonged, he said “we are yet to confirm the militant group” and added that the BDR did not apprehend any militants nor did they recover any weapons. Mishra said the BDR had assured the BSF of looking into the list of Indian rebel camps in Bangladesh handed over to them.

The next IG-level biannual meeting with the BDR will be held in Shillong next year. BSF DIG V S Sikarwar said cattle and narcotics smuggling would be discussed. He said trans-shipment of fake currency notes from Bangladesh and infiltration in border areas would be high on the agenda.
