BANGALORE, August 8: Chikkaballapur town in Karnataka’s Kolar district observed a bandh today, in protest against the reported move to build a mosque at the top of the nearby Nandi Hills. The government is said to have decided to provide three acres of land to the Waqf Board, in exchange for land to build an inspection bunglow, taken some years ago, though the purpose for which the Board will use the land is not clear. The bandh passed off peacefully. Government has promised to make a detailed statement on the matter in the State Legislature on August 11.
