
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today ordered the setting up of state and district-level joint committees of government and media representatives to look into the complaints by and against mediapersons in the state.
These committees would also advise the government on guidelines to be observed for greater media-government interaction and understanding, Chief Minister8217;s media adviser H S Bains said here.
The committees would also keep the Minister for Information and Public Relations apprised of their suggestions and recommendations from time to time. Bains here today said similar committees would be set up at every district headquarter. While Bains would be the chairperson of the state-level committee, deputy commissioners would head the panels in their districts. Bains said the state-level committee would also have Principal Secretary, Department of Home Affairs and Justice, president or secretary general of Chandigarh Press Club, a representative of the organisation of the affected journalist or the aggrieved person and legal experts as members. Similarly, the district-level committees would have District Information Public Relations Officer, an accredited journalist, a representative of the organisation of the affected journalist and a nominee of the Chief Minister as members.
Meanwhile, a delegation of the Punjab and Chandigarh journalists met Badal here today and sought an impartial inquiry into alleged harassment of a private news channel journalist in Jalandhar.
