HUBLI, MAY 7: The proposed International Airport Corporation at Bangalore will be an autonomous body and not come under the Airport Authority of India, Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Ananthkumar said here today.

Ananthkumar, who commissioned the ground lighting facilities at the Hubli Airport, told reporters that a Steering Committee comprising State government officials, Karnataka State Industrial Investment and Development Corporation (KSIIDC) and representatives of the Airport Authority of India, would be constituted to monitor the progress of the project.

The State government had decided to provide 3,000 acres of land for the purpose, he said.

The project would cost about Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 crore and the foundation would be laid in July, he said adding that it would be completed in 36 months by inviting global tenders. The project will also include a shopping complex, five-star hotel and amusement park, he said.
