Abesenting themselves from GoMs these days has become a way for ministers to show their dissent or lack of interest in the matter under discussion. A case in point is the GOM on differently-abled persons. Women and Child Development Minister Renuka Chowdhury skipped the two meetings held so far. For the first, she reportedly said the WCD Secretary would attend. She did not attend the second meeting February 5 either, though she was present in Delhi. The GoM includes the home, social justice and health ministers, among others. Is Chowdhury sulking or is there an ego clash in the group?
