The Management students of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) were in for a surprise when Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav announced Rs 10 lakh gift for the university to develop its auditorium.

Yadav was in Kochi to deliver a lecture on the ‘turnaround of Indian Railways’ as part of the the lecture series organised by CUSAT.

The minister was apparently surprised to see the congested auditorium and many students standing after he was led to the dais.

After completing his lecture, Yadav was given a memento as a token of appreciation. But to the surprise of all gathered there, he walked upto the mike and made the announcement of Rs 10 lakh, to thunderous applause from the students.

“The hall is too small and I see lots of students standing outside,” he said.

Again as the Railway Minister got into a car on his way to the airport, a group of students greeted him. Yadav immediately got out of the car and went near the students to accept their greetings.

However, police had a tough time controlling the surging students.
