TOKYO: Japanese Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi has said India and Pakistan8217;s nuclear tests not only affected the stability in Asia but also were a major blow to all international efforts for non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament. quot;Stability in Asia has been affected by the series of nuclear tests conducted by India and Pakistan in May as they represented grave challenge to all international efforts for non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and nuclear disarmament,quot; Obuchi said in a speech to a group of Vietnamese policy makers on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in Hanoi. Obuchi said India, Pakistan and North Korea were source of security concerns in Asia.

KUALA LUMPUR: Prosecutors in the trial of Anwar Ibrahim announced plans today to introduce video tapes as evidence to prove corruption and illegal sex charges. 8220;I8217;ll be bringing in rebuttal evidence, that includes video tapes,8221; said Abdul Gani Patail, who leads the prosecution against the former Malaysian deputy premier. No details were given, but a defence lawyer said there are no lurid scenes. The prosecution is trying to prove that Anwar had an extramarital affair, committed numerous acts of sodomy and then abused his official position to cover up the sexual trysts. The government8217;s case was prompted by accusations by Ummi Hafilda Ali, the sister of Anwar8217;s former secretary, and Azizan Abu Bakar,a former driver for the politician8217;s family.
