Assam hits back on ULFA threat

A day after ULFA issued a threat against hosting the 33rd National Games, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday said his government would surely go ahead and host the event.

A day after ULFA issued a threat against hosting the 33rd National Games, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday said his government would surely go ahead and host the event.

8220;The government is firm on holding the National Games. This event is not just for the present generation of sportspersons, but also for future generations. How can anyone try to prevent it?8221; Gogoi said.

ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa had issued a statement on Sunday saying holding of the National Games was against 8220;the people8217;s wishes8221; and announced that his outfit would prevent the event from being held.
